Contact Surface Computation for Coarsely Sampled Deformable Objects

چکیده
We introduce a new collision response scheme that handles collisions between deformable objects with triangulated surfaces. Based on internal forces and penetration depth information, the approach computes the contact surface of interpenetrating objects. In particular, we address discontinuity problems that arise in discrete-time simulations with coarse surface representations. The approach is independent of the actual deformation model and the applied collision detection algorithm, and in contrast to penalty-based collision response schemes, the method does not require any user-defined parameters. We compare the contact surface method to a penalty-based collision response scheme to illustrate the conceptual advantages of the proposed technique.

متن کاملConstraint-Based Contact Analysis between Deformable Objects
The key to the successful simulation of deformable objects is to model the realistic behavior of deformation when they are influenced by intricate contact conditions and geometric constraints. This paper describes constraint-based contact modeling between deformable objects using a nonlinear finite element method. In contrast to the penalty force based approaches, constraint-based enforcement o...

We present an approach for computing generalized proximity information between arbitrary polygonal models using graphics hardware acceleration. Our algorithm combines object-space localization, multi-pass rendering techniques, and accelerated distance field computation to perform complex proximity queries at interactive rates. It is applicable to any closed, possibly non-convex, polygonal objec...

Figural object models represent object shape in terms of a hierarchy of simple shapes, protrusions, and indentations that we call "figures". Each figure has an unbranching, coarsely sampled net of medial primitives which carr>.: width information. The figural hierarchy and its medial primitives thus define the boundary with a -tolerance proportional to the corresponding medial widths, and assoc...
